A Mother’s Influence

When the human fetus is developing, the heart is the first organ to form. At that moment, a very special bond is also beginning to develop…the loving bond between mother and child. Two hearts begin to beat as one. Mother knows the heartbeat of child from a unique perspective; beating within her own body. And from within, child knows the rhythm of mother’s heartbeat. Elizabeth Stone speaks for all mothers when she says, “Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”

Research shows that when two people come near each other or have physical contact with each other, one’s heart affects the other’s electrical brain waves. It has been observed that when two people hold hands, a transfer of electrical energy is transmitted and can be detected by an EEG. Apparently this explains why when a mother embraces her crying baby, the baby calms down and stops crying. The electric waves from the mother’s heart (love) are transferred to the baby’s brain. When the baby’s brain receives these waves of love, it sends tranquilizing signals to the baby’s heart. The emotional energy of love stops the emotional energy of fear.

It is interesting to note that the heart, traditionally associated with emotions, happens to be on the left side of the body. The left side is the side that connects to the right brain, which is the center of emotional processing in the brain. Previous research has indicated that 70-85% of women and girls show a bias to hold babies to the left side of their body. Mother knows best.

In the recently released HeartMath book, Heart Intelligence, the authors note in part, “As collective consciousness increases, this will eventually reveal that love is an advanced mode of intelligent living. People have just scratched the surface of awareness regarding the focused power of love and its capacity to create a heart-based environment: one where individuals can transcend fear and what it brings, while manifesting their undiscovered gifts and fulfillment.”

We all learn a lot about love from mothers. And it appears that we learn from the inside out, even before we are born. We can take this knowledge and use it every day to help ourselves and others. When you know that your heart is transferring electrical energy to the brain waves of those around you, you owe it to yourself and others, to have thoughts of love and compassion. Your loving heart can literally calm those in your presence.

Mother’s Day is about to be celebrated as a holiday. Join the celebration. Whether you are woman or man, mother or not, I invite you to become more aware of your ability to influence those around you in a more loving way. Perhaps it’s a good day to become more accepting of yourself and others. Tell yourself that you are beautiful and smart. Perhaps it’s time to tell yourself that you’re a good boy or good girl and you’re doing a good job. Maybe you need to believe that everything is going to be okay; that you can do anything you set your mind to do. Reach out to those around you. Listen to each other’s troubles. Wipe away tears. Offer a shoulder to lean on. Hold hands. Give lots of hugs and kisses. Cuddle. Pat each other on the back; or give a back rub. Tell each other stories. Make each other laugh. Take time to be kind. Make your mother proud.

A Dose of Vitamin Earth

Earth Day is the largest civic event in the world, celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities. If we don’t take care of the planet, she cannot take care of us. And we are all in this together!

We live in a very modern, technical society. We have come to believe that we are somehow different than our primitive ancestors…more advanced…more civilized. We have a different relationship with the natural world. We are disconnected from the source of our food. We spend most of our time indoors, cut off from the benefits of sunlight on our bodies and the earth beneath our feet. Do you realize that in the past 20 years, childhood has moved inside? The average American kid spends as little as 30 minutes each day in unstructured outdoor play.  They spend more than 7 hours each day in front of a television, video game or computer.

Physical bodies are bioelectric machines; they operate on electrical impulses. The heart and brain are obvious examples of this. Every movement of your body or thought in your mind is a vibrational frequency and an electrical transmission. Your body is meant to come in contact with the Earth. It is a grounding force.  When you are surrounded by electromagnetic waves, Wi-Fi and cell phone signals, positive electrons can build up in your body. Have you heard of free radicals? When we do something as simple as walking or sitting barefoot outside, we have direct contact with the Earth’s surface. This balances us in the form of a negative grounding charge.

Research shows that being grounded benefits the body in many ways. We need the Earth’s electrons for our well-being…just as our ancient ancestors did! We are a part of nature. We are connected with Mother Earth. These negative electrons benefit your body in many ways. In fact, they appear to be foundational for general health. When these negative electrons are deficient or missing, health problems can occur. It’s as if we need a little Vitamin Earth every day as a nutritional supplement! Sustained contact with the Earth’s natural subtle surface electric energy can reduce inflammation and pain.

In Japan, people are encouraged to participate in shintin yoku, or forest bathing. A study began in 1982 has shown that spending time with trees improves well-being, reduces stress and depression. This time in nature boosts the immune system. In fact, a walk in nature even boosted working memory much more than walks in urban environments.

There are definite physical and psychological benefits derived from the practice of communing with nature. It decreases anxiety and elevates your mood; it improves self-esteem. Studies have also found that natural beauty can elicit feelings of awe, which is one of the surest ways to experience a mental boost. Among people who work in an office, even a window with a view of nature is associated with lower stress and higher job satisfaction.

I encourage you to do a little “Earthing” to celebrate this Earth Day. Take some time to lay on the ground and feel the Earth beneath you, supporting you. Imagine growing roots out of the bottom of your feet and feel yourself securely planted in the ground. Stake your claim. When your roots are strong; when you feel supported…you are able to create an abundant life. You reap the fruits of your labor.

My message for Earth Day is this: We are one. We are connected. Spend some time with your Mother. Do something nice for her! She gives you everything you need, including life itself! When you honor the Earth, you honor your life. And you also honor your children and your children’s children. You make a statement that your action is a belief in the future. Come into right relationship with your true mother… Mother Earth, Mother Nature, Gaia, Pachamama, Parvati, Terra, the Cosmic Mother. Earth Day is something to celebrate Every Day. Go bathe yourself in the forest.

Traveling the Time Tunnel

Einstein told us, “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” When we imagine how things will be, our minds fill in all the details. It is as if we are really “there” in another time or place. When we become conscious of our inner reality, we also experience the emotions that are evoked from the daydream. We can use this ability to “feel” the future to help us to decide about how we want to live future experiences. If it doesn’t feel good when we imagine it, we can be absolutely certain that it will not be good if we choose to physically experience it. A performer does not show up without a rehearsal. Imagining or pretending is a form of rehearsal which prepares us for life.

Often we have decisions to make. There may be two or more different options or approaches to a situation. How can we know what is best? Our imagination knows! Our subconscious mind can give us the answer! Because the mind doesn’t know the difference between what we imagine and what we perceive to be reality, we can travel through a time tunnel to experience the future so we can make the right choices in the present.

When you imagine a situation, your subconscious mind reacts to your thoughts and to your beliefs about your thoughts. Its reactions are based on your faith about the way things are, or your lifescript. Your body produces appropriate hormones which elicit physical feelings based on your thoughts and past experiences. You may feel threatened or angry when you travel to an anticipated confrontation with an individual. Or you may feel comforted or happy if you imagine the situation unfolding in a different way. These feelings are important to note! You are creating your future experiences. How do you want to feel about your actions? Act accordingly.

Imagine the goal and play the role. Imagine the steps you will need to take to reach the goal or the resolution to a problem. Pay attention to the feelings you may have regarding each of those steps. When you identify a negative response, consider another option until your feelings are in alignment with your success.

We all have an innate ability to project ourselves to a different perception of time. We are all time travelers. We navigate the journey. When we remember, we are traveling into the past. When we project or fantasize, we are traveling into the future. Time is imaginary. It is a concept. The only time that exists is this moment. And this moment is the creative Now.

Now is the moment when you can enter the time tunnel. Now is the moment to begin your future by exploring the unlimited opportunities available to you. Take the trip. No reservations are required. No deposit. You don’t need a passport. And you are always in control of your experiences. At the end of the tunnel, you realize what life is…a series of experiences until you reach your final destination.

By using the power of your subconscious mind, accessed through hypnosis or meditation, you can rewrite your lifescript, adjust your beliefs, and release your limitations. You can be certain that your future experiences throughout time will be all that you imagined!

Emotional Guidance System (EGS)

Many of us have a Global Positioning System (GPS) in our vehicles. A computer system linked to satellites in outer space is available at the touch of a button. It can pinpoint our exact location anywhere on the planet. It helps you to find the way when you don’t know how to get to where you want to go.

Are you aware of an even better system of keeping yourself going in the right direction? It’s factory-installed with every unit and it’s absolutely free of charge! You have a personal and powerful Emotional Guidance System (EGS). To access the system, all you need do is pay attention to what you are thinking and how you are feeling. If you pay attention to your emotions, you will always know if you are traveling on the right road.

Your “home” or your “natural” state of being, is a condition of well-being and joy. Consider a baby. Whether a human baby, a puppy, a kitten…all exhibit a state of ecstatic joy. When you are thinking thoughts which bring about the feeling of joy, you are traveling on the right road. Your EGS is pointing you to exactly where you want to go! You are happily in alignment with who you are. Of course, it’s not always possible to be thinking joyful thoughts every moment of the day! Life happens. But your awareness will allow you to make the conscious shift to a better thought. It’s a choice you can make.

There are really no “good” or “bad” emotions. All emotions serve a purpose. All emotions are valuable because they are an expression of you. Honor your emotions. When you try to ignore or swallow your emotions, your EGS will send out an alarm! A distress signal of nausea or headache. Even the “bad” emotions, such as anger, serve a purpose and are to be recognized and then let go. When you’re thinking the thoughts that are creating the feelings of anger, you may not be able to just “let go”.  Again, it’s a choice you can make. Be aware of the thoughts which are creating the emotions. Choose a different thought.

Your EGS can direct your thoughts to a higher state. What if you took a turn towards disappointment instead of anger? That feels better. Perhaps your anger is really because someone acted in a way other than you expected. You feel doubtful and hurt. And then maybe your EGS would help you to consider that the disappointment was triggered by boredom. Are you angry because your plans have been changed? And you have nothing to do? Boredom doesn’t feel as “bad” as anger, does it? And you have control over your own boredom, don’t you? Maybe if you recognized that you were bored, your EGS would tell you to go entertain yourself. If you thought about entertaining yourself, you would turn directly to enthusiasm, which would feel really “good”. And once you were feeling that enthusiasm, you could consider what activity would bring you joy.

Your journey from anger to joy doesn’t have to take a long time. You can avoid the traffic jams. The only roadblocks are the ones you create. Your EGS will show them to you by making you feel “bad”.  And it will direct you around the barriers by pointing the way to feel “good”. It helps you to find the way when you don’t know how to get to where you want to go. You can always find your way home…to your state of ecstatic joy!

Prana…the “absolute energy” that fills the spaces between atoms

Quantum physics shows that what we perceive as solid matter is actually 99.9999% empty space filled with energy.  (If one atom of the physical body were the size of an apple, the closest atom next to it would be 2000 miles away.)

This brings us to the concept of prana, the energy that fills the spaces between atoms.

In Sanskrit, prana means “absolute energy”. It is the force that pervades all being, connecting all living things and all energy matter. In the Hindu concept, prana is made from sunlight and air. As it is drawn into the etheric body, the seven atoms that compose prana separate and each travels to the chakra it nourishes. The chakras draw prana or vitality into the extended body through the solar plexus chakra, which is the hub of a 10-spoked wheel, distributing the prana color rays.

As a hypnotherapist, I use the practice of pranayama by aiding my clients in the practice of focus on the breath. By taking deep, full breaths, the amount of air that enters and flows is increased. This very action stimulates the power of healing, balance and well-being by directing maximum prana to all the chakras, resulting in healing throughout the extended body.

When there is an excess or deficiency in prana flowing through a given chakra or throughout all energy centers, an imbalance occurs. It manifests in emotional discomfort or physical disease in an area and a form reflective of the chakra which is out of harmony. Healing takes place on all levels of the extended energy body before physical well-being manifests. Remember all matter is energy.

Align Your Thought Field

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) (see is an unconventional method which offers remarkable results. It can be used to release negative thoughts and emotions and reinforce positive affirmations and beliefs. You can let go of limiting beliefs that keep you from living the life you want. EFT can be used to focus and choose positive thoughts by affirming what you want. Since you are only able to process one emotion at a time, you must make a choice. EFT helps you to make that choice energetically.

 EFT is a form of Energy Psychology, Meridian Therapy, or Thought Field Therapy. It is an obvious extension of Einstein’s discovery that ALL matter, including the human body, is composed of energy. When we experience a negative emotion or physical discomfort or pain, it is because there has been a disruption in our energy system. The thought energy affects the emotional energy which affects the physical energy. EFT works by tapping on a series of points on the body which correspond to acupuncture points in the energy meridian system. Tapping on the conduits between the energy body and the physical body releases blockages and limitations and enhances the well-being and functioning of the individual. EFT is an emotional version of acupuncture, except you stimulate the meridian points by tapping on them with your fingertips. Tuning into a problem or a limiting belief can be done by simply thinking bout it. Thinking will bring about the energy disruptions involved which then …and only then… can be balanced by tapping the 9-Step Sequence.

 To release negative emotions, rate each of the negative beliefs or experiences using a number scale from 1 to 10, giving each a rating about how bad it makes you feel – a subjective unit of discomfort (SUD). Take a deep breath, focus on your issue and create a set-up phrase, which identifies the problem.

 “Even though I have …this problem… I deeply and completely accept myself.”

 Examples of “this problem” may be something like:

 “Even though my father told me I was lazy…”

“Even though I’ve failed before…”

“Even though I’m overweight…”

“Even though I’m unworthy…”

“Even though I’m really angry with my husband…”

 Using two fingers begin by tapping on the first spot. Either tap on the thymus gland located at the center of the breastbone, or tap on the side of the hand at the karate chop point. While tapping, focus on your issue and breathe deeply. Do this while repeating the set-up phrase three times. It doesn’t matter if you tap on either your right or left side. Or you can use both hands while tapping through the 9-Step Sequence; tapping on both sides of the body at the same time.

 Now, while saying “releasing this problem”…”don’t need this problem”…” letting go of this problem”, tap on the remaining spots of the 9-Step Sequence:

 For a particularly intense issue, continue tapping on the outer side of the thumb, pointer, middle and little fingers, as well as the karate chop point on the side of the hand. Evaluate your SUD and continue the process until you have reached a level of comfort. You may also use the 9-Step Sequence to release any unwanted emotions at the time you are experiencing the feeling. It is not necessary to verbally express and identify the emotions…just tap. To reinforce and choose positive behaviors and affirmations, use the 9-Step Sequence to tap as you focus on your choices. For example, after you have “released anxiety” you can then “choose to be calm”. You can also choose confidence, focus, motivation, joy, freedom, empowerment or any other positive emotion. After you have written your affirmations, take a moment to tap through the 9-Step Sequence while you read and focus on your affirmation. Notice if you are energetically aligned with your desires. If not, take the opportunity to tap away any limitations.

 There are many ways to fine tune the procedure. The set-up phrase, identifying the problem or formulating the affirmation or choice, is a very important factor. Please contact a Certified EFT Practitioner for assistance. Belief in the process is unnecessary. EFT is like gravity or electricity. It works whether you believe in it or not. In order to achieve results, you just have to do it. Persistently and consistently.

Do You Know Where Your Sushumna Is? And Why Should You Care?

The concept of the chakras (a Sanskrit word which translates as wheel or vortex) has been in existence since before recorded history. The chakras are points of energy transformation. They absorb, filter and distribute vitality to the Etheric Body as well as the Physical Body. The original seven chakras map logically onto the body through the nerve ganglia. Think of the chakras as cones or spirals, being tornado shaped. Visualize the wider end being a whirling concave disc and the point of the cone penetrating the spinal cord. Imagine that this cone extends from both the back and the front of the body.

The chakras extend through the body and are rooted in a central energy channel running up the subtle body (Etheric), which connects all the chakras. The chakras are all interdependent. If one energy center is shut down, the others will compensate in maintaining the life force. This central energy channel, which roughly corresponds to the spinal column, is called the sushumna.

Along the left side of the sushumna is a channel of feminine, or moon energy, called the ida, which is receptive in nature. To the right side of the sushumna is the pingala, a channel of masculine, more outward sun energy. The intertwining nadis meet at the Third Eye Chakra. Imagine the symbol of the allopathic medicine profession – the Caduceus of Hermes – two snakes intertwined around a central column ending at a winged center.

The chakras comprise various levels of awareness, activity and energetic charge. The lower chakras are magnetic energy, whereas the upper chakras are electrical energy. The lower three chakras, below the diaphragm, are feminine in that their function is specifically receptive, taking in energy from the earth and the environment. The upper four chakras are known as masculine chakras because they are concerned with giving energy out in the form of love, communication, healthy attitudes and inner reflection.

The chakras draw prana or vitality into the Extended Energy Body. Proper, focused breathing and meditation techniques cause increased amounts of prana to enter and flow and thereby, increase the power of healing, balance and well-being. Your Emotions Create Your Physical Experience ~
An Introduction to Your Extended Energy Body

As a being, you are so much more than your physical body. Are you aware that your physical body is actually an outward expression of your thoughts? Our physical bodies are energetic maps. The body acts as a mirror for the higher mind, showing where there is balance or imbalance. Consider that your thoughts are directing your conscious decisions about how and what you eat, how active you choose to be and how you deal with stress. Each of these conscious actions can create a state of well-being, or a state of dis-ease.

The physical human body has other bodies surrounding it, each in its essence, vibration. As the bodies extend out from the core physical body, they become increasingly more fine in vibration. Even the densest matter is composed mostly of empty space. The body is actually 99+% void! If an atom in the body were the size of an apple, the next closest atom to it would be 1000-2000 miles away.

The Physical Body contains all our organic systems and is composed of gases, liquids and dense matter. It experiences life by the earthly senses of sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. Consider the physical body as no more than a vehicle, a vessel, in which to travel. We need our physical body to live, but we are not our physical body.

The Etheric (health) Body projects about one quarter inch beyond the skin, usually no more than a foot. It is the thickest and densest of the subtle bodies. It is a perfect duplicate of the physical body. It distributes the universal life force (prana) through the chakras or energy centers. It acts as a two way bridge between the physical and the astral plane, between mass and energy. This subtle body is the nonphysical psychic body that is superimposed on our physical bodies. It exists within and around all living plants and animals and can be measured as an electromagnetic force field. The nadis and meridians, the nerve ending centers used in acupuncture and acupressure techniques, are located at this level.

The Astral (emotional) Body is a half to two-foot band that extends beyond the etheric double and is usually visible to those who can see auras. It is the vehicle of sensation and emotion and is made up of our desires. This is where energy gets blocked and imploded. Whenever you express an emotion you are using your astral body. Every feeling instantly affects this body and is reflected in it. Every thought that affects you personally is also reflected on this body. It connects the physical body to the mind and connects the conscious mental level above it to the etheric double below it.

The Mental (lower/intellectual and higher/intuitive) Body projects beyond the astral body and is also contained within the astral, etheric and physical body. It is composed of the lower (intellectual) and the higher (intuitive) aura bands. The difference between the layers is the difference between concrete and abstract thoughts. The lower mental body is the rational, thinking mind, whereas the higher mental body is the imaginative, superconscious mind. This body is constantly in motion, changing. Whenever you use your intellect, memory or visualization, you are using your mental body, Thoughts and attitudes are crucial to well-being and health.

The Spiritual Body, composed of three aura layers (the Monadic, the Godhead and the Divine) is felt in experiences of oneness and transcendence. In quantum theory, it is the spaces between atoms. Meditation and altered states of consciousness is the way to connect with this body.

Science agrees that more than 70% of all dis-ease is mind-related with no organic cause. As we understand more about the mind-body connection, we are better able to create health and well-being.

A Healthy Attitude of Gratitude

If you think of something that makes you very, very happy… If you imagine sharing special moments with a loved one….If you bring to mind an exceptionally pleasant memory… 


Do these thoughts create an emotion? Does the emotion bring a feeling into your body? Are you aware of a change in your physical sense of well being? Perhaps you’ve already begun to smile. Notice where you experience this feeling in your body.

As you become aware of this feeling and focus on it, you are in a state of gratitude. As you acknowledge your appreciation, every cell is reacting to your thoughts. Your positive emotions create this blissful feeling in your physical body. At that moment, you are in a state of conscious creation. At that moment, you are energetically aligned with your good thoughts. The Universe responds to your joy by bringing you more of the same.

As we enter the season of thankfulness, it is wise to spend time focusing on the positive experiences and the loving relationships in our lives. Now is the time to recognize and acknowledge the abundance in our daily lives. Now is the time to do that daily, moment by moment, not just once a year at Thanksgiving. Creation is an on-going process which is fueled and supported by gratitude.

Celebrate and harvest all that life has to offer. Allow yourself to take advantage of the bounty of everyday. Be conscious of your thoughts. Choose the good ones. And be glad! Your body will thank you for it!
